Working as a ‘computer’ in the days when few women could pursue a career in science, she was employed to measure and analyse photographs of the stars in painstaking detail. Henrietta Leavitt was the woman who rescued the situation. In particular, nobody could measure the distances to the galaxies. Even measuring distances across the universe had proved problematic. Unfortunately, they were having serious problems with measuring reality. While theorists developed this hypothesis, it was up to the observational astronomers to test the theory against reality. The show also revisited Holzer’s tragic case from Tyler, Texas, in an episode titled “The Devil in Texas.” Perhaps most dramatic was the “A Grave Revenge” episode where the investigators traveled to the Whaley House, which Hans Holzer considered the most haunted home in America – and where Schrader appeared to be physically shoved by an unseen force. If children could have one reason to believe in magic, it would be from reading this book. It is written extremely well, each page is beautifully illustrated to accompany the story in a magical and realistic manner. If one of these necessary elements isn’t present, then the book fails. The title and cover must absolutely grab the attention of a child and the whole package must be approved of by the parent. The illustrations are viable to the success of a well-written, age appropriate story. Writing Children’s book is one of the hardest things for an author to do, I know, I write them too. Wow!
